The mindset and the requirements of today’s consumers are changing and evolving.  With the increased awareness of plastic pollution, climate change and waste disposal issues worldwide, consumers have now started to look for environmentally friendly products for their daily consumption. It is a positive sign towards tackling climate change as Governments and non-profits worldwide cannot address the environmental issues alone if consumers do not support the systematic change and change their purchasing habits towards daily disposable products.

If we give alternatives to consumers,  provide education, awareness, and more choices to replace their daily single-use plastic needs with certified and tested renewable products, it will be helpful to consumers, and their decisions will change considerably. Increased demand with increasing the production of renewable sources, will open new business opportunities and will balance the demand, supply and cost issues. Increased demand for renewable products will also help the economies and governments to meet their 2030 goals and reduce their carbon emissions. Each plastic bag replaced with one compostable bag has a positive effect towards environmental plastic pollution reduction.

As a manufacturer of Biobased plastic products, we have given the intense focus on achieving and getting our bags approved from various certification agencies such as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), TUV Austria OK Compost (EN 13432) and many more. Our bags are also tested through various testing agencies to ensure that its raw material is renewable and biodegradable in nature and comply with multiple pet products compliance requirements for the US and other countries. It also gives the guarantee that our products once used, are not harmful to the soil and human health. These bags do not emit greenhouse gases during manufacturing, consumption and decomposing in landfills.

According to Statista, in 2015, the NAFTA countries had the world's highest per capita consumption of plastic materials, at some 139 kilograms. In 2016, the production of plastic worldwide amounted to some 335 million metric tons and is increasing continuously.

Further in the United States alone, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in the U.S. each year. According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. (Estimated cost to retailers is $4 billion).

It is disappointing to see that human efforts are not sufficient to meet our natures demand. Our lives and surroundings are all covered with plastic-based products, and this currency is not replaceable with “Green Gold”. Plastics need to be replaced with certified environment-friendly biobased products to meet the demands of future generations. Eco Certifications help the consumers recognize a biodegradable product out of the crowd on the shopping shelves. These certifications are essential as it helps the consumer to understand the difference between compostable and non-compostable, it guarantees that the product is not harmful to the environment and human health and they feel safe to use that product. An assurance towards safety, utility, and renewability, motivates the consumer to spend rightly on right choices.

Hence at bioDOGradable, we have invested substantially into the testing of our bags against various environmental regulations and certifications, to educate, assure and motivate our customers to buy renewable eco-friendly products. It is the most critical step towards stopping plastic pollution.

Let us all “ Be Sustainable, Be Aware” and save the earth and our oceans from plastic pollution.
